Would the poor kitty feel like it was being replaced? Lots of new parents are worried about interactions between their animal and their human bundle of joy, but with adequate preparation and careful maneuvering, there’s no reason they can’t have a beautiful bond.
In this video we see how deeply and thoroughly the household cat, also named Diana, has bonded with her family’s newborn baby. The baby is shown sleeping snuggled up on Mom’s chest, and the cat is snuggled up their two, her two front legs splayed on either side of the little one as she snoozes, her face one of peaceful bliss. Mom strokes the cat’s back and everyone looks perfectly happy.

“How is Diana adjusting to the baby?” asks a viewer, and this video certainly answers that question.
“Awww, you had twins?” Jokes one person in comments.
“She’s a kitty blanket!” exclaims another.
We think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
Superstitions About Cats and Babies
It’s nice to see parents who are fully embracing the positives that a pet can bring to a baby and child’s life. Unfortunately, cats are subject to extremely prejudicial and negative superstitions and old wives’ tales when it comes to babies. One claims that your cat will “steal the baby’s breath”—i.e., suffocate the baby by covering its mouth with their face. This was thought to be because the scent of milk on your baby’s breath. Let’s be perfectly clear: this is a lie. Though cats may be curious about your baby’s breath, they are curious about plenty of interesting smells, from what you are cooking for dinner to the contents of a baby’s diaper. They will most likely do little more than sniff the baby and move on.
But this superstition has given rise to a practice through which many cats are countless abandoned when babies come into the house, when in truth there is no reason that cats and babies can’t be excellent companions to each other.
Introducing Your Cat to Your New Baby
Cats and babies can get along perfectly well. Of course, it always pays to supervise your pets when they are in the company of small children and infants, particularly because they may not realize how delicate tiny humans actually are, but gentle, well-trained cats can be excellent companions for babies. You know your cat best. If they are good natured and gentle, they will likely recognize that there is an even greater need to be careful. Cats aren’t dumb, they recognize babies as “human kittens.”
In fact, allowing your cat controlled and supervised access to the baby, as the family in this video is doing, is the best way to help your cat bond with the new arrival and understand that the little one is now part of the family as well.
Diana seems to have gotten this message loud and clear.
