Harris says she'll take cognitive test, challenges Trump to take the same exam

Vice President Kamala Harris challenged her 2024 opponent former President Donald Trump to take a cognitive test, after saying she would take an exam as well.

Trump called for Harris to take and "pass a test on Cognitive Stamina and Agility," in a post on Truth Social earlier this month. He alleged at the time, "she is slow and lethargic in answering even the easiest of questions."

Harris hit back in an interview over the weekend.

"This is what he has resorted to, and I think he actually is increasingly unstable and unhinged and has resorted to name calling because he actually has no plan for the American people," Harris told CBS anchor Norah O'Donnell while on the campaign trail in Kalamazoo, Michigan, agreeing to sit for an exam and calling on Trump to take the same one.

Trump allies and the former president himself continued attacks on Harris' acuity at a rally in New York Sunday. Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson called Harris "low IQ," in his remarks on stage at Madison Square Garden.

The former president, who has targeted Harris' intelligence, questioned her racial identity and launched other personal insults in recent months, also said Sunday that she "can't put two sentences together."

Harris' comments about a cognitive test come after a White House physician earlier this month released a memo saying Harris was in "excellent health." The release was based on a physical from April and noted the vice president has seasonal allergies.

Trump has not released the same medical details as Harris in recent weeks. However, his campaign has pointed to positive memos from Rep. Ronny Jackson, R-Texas, a former physician to the president under former President Barack Obama and Trump's administration, as well as Trump's personal physician after exams.

In her interview released Monday, Harris argued Trump is "unfit" for a second term in the White House, pointing to criticism from his former allies.

"Don't take it from me, listen to the people who know him best," Harris said. "His former chiefs of staff. Most recently, 4-star Marine General John Kelly. Listen to two former secretaries of defense who worked for him, listen to his national security adviser, listen to his vice president, who have all, in one way or another, said he is unfit to be president again, should never be president again, and is dangerous."

Kelly, Trump's former White House chief of staff, told the New York Times last week that he believes Trump has no understanding of the Constitution or the rule of law – and that the 2024 presidential candidate fits the bill for a fascist. Trump and his aides have rejected the accusations, calling Kelly a disgruntled employee.
