Olivia Rodrigo Opens Up About ‘Terrifying’ Moment She Fell Through a Hole While Onstage in Australia

Olivia Rodrigo is speaking out about her onstage fall.

Appearing on TheTonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, Oct. 29, host Jimmy Fallon spoke about the mishap before playing a clip of the singer, 21, falling into a hole onstage while performing in Melbourne, Australia, earlier this month.

“Oh my God, that was fun! I'm okay,” Rodrigo jokingly said in the video as she climbed out of the hole to continue on with the concert. "Wow, sometimes, just there's just a hole in the stage."

After laughing at the throwback moment on the talk show, Rodrigo recalled how the moment “was really scary.“

“Watching the video back, it’s pretty terrifying,” the three-time Grammy winner continued. “I mean the show must go on, that’s showbiz baby.”

She added, “It was actually kind of a beautiful thing and I’m really happy it happened in hindsight. So I had just been to the Philippines. That was my next stop, Australia, after the Philippines.”

“And I was thinking about my family and my heritage and my relatives and I fell and I was like all shaken up,” the musician said. “And I went to the hospital after. Nothing happened but they just wanted to make sure I didn’t have a concussion.”

Rodrigo, who is of Filipino heritage, then revealed that the nurse happened to be Filipino with the same name as her grandpa, “who just passed away a few months ago.”

“And so I was like wow that was him looking out for me,” she added. “Making sure I didn’t get hurt and so I’m really happy it happened. I think it’s a beautiful story.”

After the incident, Rodrigo posted a clip of the fall to her TikTok, captioning it, "#subtleforeshadowing."

The "So American" singer has finished her tour dates for 2024, but the Guts World Tour will resume in March 2025 as part of Lollapalooza in Argentina, Chile and Brazil, before traveling to Manchester, England, in June.
