UFC Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones to Complete Anger Management to Resolve Assault Charges

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — UFC champion Jon “Bones” Jones has agreed to undergo four hours of anger management classes to settle two misdemeanor charges after an incident involving a drug test at his New Mexico home.

The charges—assault and interference with communication—will be dismissed if Jones completes the anger management classes and adheres to legal requirements over the next 90 days. Originally pleading not guilty, Jones defended his actions, saying the allegations were baseless and that he reacted to unprofessional behavior by one of the testers, leading to some frustration.

The accusations emerged after an April incident where a Drug Free Sport International employee accused Jones of hostility during a drug test at his residence. A criminal complaint noted that while Jones was initially cooperative, he later became agitated. However, Jones provided police with video evidence, showing a friendly exchange with a high-five at the end of the test.

Jones, regarded as one of MMA’s top fighters, captured the heavyweight title in 2023 with a first-round win over Ciryl Gane. He’s set to face Stipe Miocic on Nov. 16 at Madison Square Garden after a postponed match due to an injury. His career has faced previous controversies, including suspensions and no-contest rulings after drug test issues.

By agreeing to this resolution, Jones aims to put the matter behind him as he focuses on his upcoming fight and his continued dominance in the UFC.
