D.J. Moore Declares Chicago No Longer a Wide Receiver 'Wasteland'

D.J. Moore believes that the longstanding perception of Chicago as a place where wide receivers struggle can now be discarded. Caleb Williams has been hailed as the quarterback who will end the Bears' prolonged quest for a franchise signal-caller, but Moore has already made his mark as a transformative wide receiver for the team.

After a stellar debut season in 2023 and securing a significant contract extension, Moore feels he's changed the narrative. "When I got here, it was a thing," Moore told Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times. "As the season progressed, I realized we could throw that out the window."

In his first season with Chicago, Moore recorded career-high stats with 96 receptions, 1,364 receiving yards, and eight touchdown catches. These impressive numbers rank among the top performances in Bears' history, underscoring the team's historical struggles at the wide receiver position, exacerbated by inconsistent quarterback play.

Moore's outstanding season highlighted the deficiencies in the Bears' receiving corps, as he alone outperformed all other Bears wide receivers combined. This year, with the additions of veteran Pro Bowler Keenan Allen and rookie first-rounder Rome Odunze, Moore's dominance might not be as pronounced, but his impact remains significant.

Despite having four 1,000-yard seasons, Moore has yet to be voted to a Pro Bowl, a recognition no Bears receiver has achieved since 2013. With his new four-year, $210 million extension, Moore is poised to break some of the Bears' longstanding records, including Johnny Morris' all-time receiving yards record of 5,059.

Moore, confident in his abilities, was never concerned about his performance declining in Chicago. "I heard that coming here," Moore said. "I wasn't paying it no mind. I was like, 'Shoot, I'm still young.'"

Optimism is indeed alive and thriving in Chicago's wide receiver corps, thanks in large part to Moore's contributions.
